This documentation explains how to process climate variables using the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Mesh Climatology 2020.

The FAO-56 ET0 chapter adds a separate workflow for NARO daily inputs from 2008–2018, alongside the existing Thornthwaite PET workflow based on 1991–2020 JMA/MLIT monthly normals. Reference ET0 and temperature-based PET have different definitions, inputs and periods. The new chapter executes synthetic examples only; permission to share the NARO-derived ET0 and precipitation tables or maps remains unconfirmed.

This project uses the National Land Numerical Information (MLIT) Average Value Mesh Data.

This repository does not redistribute original or processed datasets. Please download required data on your own.

Package management

This repository uses renv for R package dependency management. After cloning, run renv::restore() to reproduce the package environment.

If you do not use renv, install required packages manually.
